Venus: Love Goddess

Little Cupid, who should be helping his mother, is the god of love and so can only encourage the "he-goat" once known as Pan.

The symbolism, of course, is fertility. These two are the prime fertility gods of the Greeks and Romans. Venus descends from the Brahmanical Vena of the Rig-Veda and Bacchus from the Moon god Soma, the entheogenic plant and son of the Sun. They fertilized not only the body, but also mind.

Their son was Hymen, the god who presided over solemn nuptials. After the joining ceremony, the wedding party would follow the couple back to their house to sing joyous songs to Hymen (called hymnals) and observe to make sure the wedding was consummated.
