The Nagual Jaguar Form "Runauturuncu"

This idea is found around the world, becoming part of American pop culture thru the Carlos Castaneda books of the sixties and seventies. It is a transmogrification process said to be used by Central and South American brujos or witches, but we find it also in lore throughout antiquity like the Greek centaur and minotaur or legendary werewolf.

This is the photo that inspired my research into this legend. It is a hand-carved statue I bought from an Incan boy at Sacsayhuaman outside Cusco, Peru back in 1997. It depicts a human transforming into a flying jaguar called a "Runauturuncu" (notice he still has human hands). This and much more is described in the book as a form assumed by one of the antagonists in the story.
